Because I live in England and don't go to a fictional American high school in the 1980s, I have never and will never go to a prom, so I viciously live through American 1970s-80s movies and Rookie's 'Strange Magic' installation. Above is my inspiration collected around the theme of proms and that glittery teenaged thing, u know... majorly inspired by the Virgin Suicides and Jawbreaker and you know what I'm talking about anyway (I hope).

I just haven't done a mood board sort of thing in a while and all these photos seemed to fit together- The title of this post is a lyric from a Bleached song. Forget Haim, Bleached are a super cool duo girl band from LA who make rad punkish music slightly similar to Hole and The Primitives.

I don't know about any of you, but I normally skim read the first few lines of someone's blog post and then look at the pictures. Even on Rookie I read one or two paragraphs of an article and I get bored. My attention span is really worrying and I realised I was probably actually missing out on stuff by not reading it all. Recently I rewatched Tavi Gevinson's talk on her world and fangirls and the importance of liking things and making art, and it really changed my view. I started going back through Rookie's beginning of the month letters and reading them, because what she was saying in her talk resonated with me a lot, and I started to realise that those Rookie letters are aimed at people exactly like me, and I should be reading them.. *ew cringe cliche moment*.

Tavi's 'Forever' letter this December about being a teenager made an impact on me, especially after hearing her talk, because I always took her for some everyday fangirly annoying teenager girl blogger who happened to get famous for screaming about clothes online, until I actually read what she was saying. 
But she is 'every day', in that she represents all us girls, which makes her even better - she's a teenaged prodigy in the blogging world and yet she still has to go to school and live with her parents, which makes her really down to earth. Her talk made me realise how intellegent and understanding she is, how it's ok to like things that wouldn't normally be on your spectrum and it made me actually think about why we like the things that we like. I really appreciated Rookie for once, because when you take a step back, it is definitely the (first and) most popular online publication that doesn't patronise teenage girls, or suggest that the only thing that interests us is clothes and boys. 

So basically if you are as lazy as me and can never be bothered to read the Rookie articles that might actually interest you, please actually have a look and read them through.. 
also especially if you're a creative person, watch Tavi's talk, because I'm so happy I watched it a second time, as I didn't properly listen to it the first time and it really gave me a new more diligent attitude to blogging and creating when I listened.

Isabella Blow: Somerset House Review

I went to Somerset House the other day to see the Isabella Blow: Fashion Galore exhibition and it was amazing. I knew nothing about her before I went, but instantly found her really interesting and loved her strange sense of fashion. Many of the hats she made were inspired by birds and used feathers and weird pointed shapes to look like beaks. My favourite outfit in the whole thing was a bright pink chiffon burkha worn by Blow, designed by Jun Takahashi and patterned with dark green teddy bears with nails through their heads. (Morbid I know). 
 The Alexander McQueen collection inspired by her: La Dame Bleue was beautiful and so poignant, including the catwalk video of it. Isabella Blow also sourced some very successful models such as Stella Tennant and I'm so happy I went to the exhibition because I never even knew who she was before and yet she was extremely influential to the fashion world.

There's so many groovy things to do

All you Americans will probably faint when I tell you that the British aren't really 'into' Halloween. I mean we have all that orange and purple plastic filling up our supermarkets as soon as September is even on the horizon and most young children do go out trick-or-treating, but you don't get the same buzz as the USA does, and in my case, the area I live in makes little-to-no effort to give out sweets on the 31st.
But the best thing about it is the costumes so here are some characters I am considering dressing up as for Halloween:

♡ DARIA MORGANDORFFER ♡

(see middle) If you aren't already aware of this amazing 90s high school cartoon made by MTV, you won't know how brilliant Daria is, but Daria Morgandorffer is hilarious and me and my friend Rachel are thinking of being Daria and Jane for Halloween seeing as they are such a fabulous duo.

♡ WEDNESDAY ADDAMS ♡

The coolest of the cool, Wednesday has always been my favourite film character ever since I saw the Addams Family film when I was little. Alexa Chung's book: It, devotes a page to her whole look and she's fabulous so I will for sure dress up as Wednesday this Halloween.

The cartoon version, obviously. Daphne Blake from Scooby Doo will always be in my mind when I think about a Halloween costume. There are so many groovy things to do <3 <3 <3

♡ MOONRISE KINGDOM ♡

THE cutest Wes Anderson film to date, with the most beautiful aesthetic- wear an old scout uniform or a pink or yellow 1940s dress with knee socks. I really want to dress up as one of the characters from this film but my depleted wardrobe stops me </3

Aggravate the Ice Cream Man on Rainy Afternoons

 I'm trying to be summery and sunny but I've resorted to taking selfies in my bedroom while it rains...

For all of you lucky people who don't reside in the predictable United Kingdom, you will not be aware of the disgusting turn of weather we have been having this week. Last Sunday, exactly 7 days ago, I was wearing a skirt with no tights and I assure you, absolutely no shivering occurred, because the weather was lovely. Now, in such a short space of time, London has become a flood- it has been raining for about 3 days straight. 
(I am not pleased.)
But complaining is Britain's national sport, so if there was nothing to complain about: 1) All my small talk tips would go down the drain and 2) no one else would have anything to talk about either. So now with my rant behind me, I'll stop. 
(But seriously, British people don't actually have conversations, we just rant at eachother.)

But the rain is relevant to this post because it has drastically forced me to change my wardrobe, my daily routine and my music taste. 

1) Wardrobe 

Once again my heavenly mohair camel Topshop coat (see below) can be unearthed from the cupboard, to be worn at all times over any outfit, indoors and out. (Pyjamas included)
It is my favourite thing ever and I got it in winter last year. It might not keep the rain out but we have hoodies and umbrellas for that, which I will happily pile on as well.
WELLIES. My favourite things ever, I can now get my pink wellington boots out again and although, yes, they make me look like a total moron, I don't care, I love it.
Also, beanies and huge jumpers are so cosy (see Kate Winslet rocking the orange hoodie below) -I have infinite jumpers that I've been guiltily buying throughout summer which I can't wait to wear. 

2) Daily Routine 

Now admittedly, this title^ sounds like a GCSE language writing essay, but basically all I mean is that instead of walking round London in a cheerful, springy mood and sitting outside in the grass and going to the park, I have now declined into a repetitive routine of getting home from school, making two teas, pocketing a packet of biscuits and skulking upstairs to my dark, cave-like bedroom where I will retreat under a duvet and start a new tv series on Netflix, disregarding my homework. 
The happier side of Autumn means my favourite new tv seasons come out, the bugs all die, Halloween happens, and I can eat lots of toast and go camping with friends on the weekends. (Yes, we decide to go camping as soon as it gets cold.)

3)  Music

My music changes from Django Django, Girls, Beach House, Swim Deep, Grimes and The Beatles to Joy Division, Arctic Monkeys, Velvet Underground, The Smiths and all those types of bands, ya know.. Not exactly those precise bands but those kind of moods. 
At the moment, since Monday when AM, the new Arctic Monkeys album came out (I think it's their best album so far by the way so go have a listen) I have listened to nothing else. It hasn't got old for me, even though I've listened to it every day about twice round at least. My favourite songs are Knee Socks, No 1 Party Anthem and Arabella.

 

Sharing with The Lisbon Girls

In France during Summer, we stayed with a family who had rented an old house in a small French village surrounded by hills. These are some photos I took of my bedroom, with only a blue tint added. They remind me a lot of The Lisbon Girls' bedrooms in The Virgin Suicides, especially with all the small religious items and the lace and bare walls. It was quite creepy sleeping there on the first night because I had just finished reading the book (of The Virgin Suicides) and if you have seen or read it, you know it doesn't end very happily. But it was really pretty in the mornings when the light shone through the lace round the bed and the whole room was a really bright white, so here are my photos:

 

     

A/W13 inspiration

Inspiration for the Autumny/back to school vibe for drawings I might do soon- I'm back at school now which is awfulll because I get so much homework, (hope all you kids can relate)- so basically, what with GCSEs and all I might not be as sincere to my blog as I was in summer. Sorrehhh. </3

Pretty sure I wont be disappointing a lot of you seeing as not many people read this blawg but oh well..

I just discovered Freaks & Geeks- the 90s tv show about an American high school and the Weir family, but it's so unfair that there's only one series and now my unstable and rapid addiction to this show cannot be quenched because I finished the entire series last night. #TVjunkie #helpme
