THE DANCE

THEY DANCED UNTIL THE MOON WAS HIGH IN THE SKY AND SAID "WHO ARE THEY" AND NO ONE DRESSED AS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO.

DIARABI//goat
I did some embroidery on my backpack while listening to Goat the other day
(a Swedish experimental band inspired by voodoo myths from their rural hometown, who I saw live a few weeks ago).

I painted Matisse's Dance I on the back of my art coat today and did lots of drawing. Then I listened to TS Eliot reading The Wasteland and watched The Boat That Rocked because isn't the soundtrack the most uplifting thing ever.

I went to Frieze art fair and Frieze Masters this week and let me tell you that Frieze Art Fair (ie mainly contemporary and very modern artists) made me so irritated because of the lack of technical skill and beauty in any of the art!!!!!!??
Some of it was actually quite interesting and some of it was slightly laughable, particularly due to the fact that one artist thought it would be a good idea to set up a stall and entice visitors to stand at a counter while we were read incantations from a vintage postcard, asked to burn some leaves and healing oil and then given champagne in a small plastic cup. where r the aesthetics
is this art????

I'm not saying it was all bad but Frieze Masters was like a total dream after~~ there was such a huge amount and so many gallery stalls that I don't think I actually saw everything but it was heaven. There were so many little Picasso and Hockney pencil drawings and Barbara Hepworth sculptures which are the best and one gallery had transformed into a mock-up of a French artist's studio and hung paintings on the walls of the bedroom and sitting room and it was like walking into a very cosy very cool house and I wish I lived there with Matisse and my other pals.

Twin Peaks is coming back, I'm on half term, Grayson Perry has a new documentary coming out and a show in London and Aphex Twin r alright ......

And She Lay Down Deep Beneath The Sea

Tracey Emin show at White Cube Gallery // London
Art sketchbook planning // Tracey Emin
Pt 2 Progress of my art collab with Areena

Lots has happened. I met Peace: Harrison and Sam Koisser, Doug Castle and Dom Boyce and they were very very very lovely and we made them some cake. Then we watched their soundcheck before their Ally Pally gig in London and no one else was there except us-it was sureeeaal and a dream come true.

I've done lots of art whilst staying on top of sixth form work (just) and everything is OK but I'm tired. I've been listening to lots of Goat, The Doors (hello Winter and I found a 1980's vintage Jim Morrison tshirt in my mother's cupboard), Echo and the Bunnymen and Aphex Twin. I also can't decide whether or not I should listen to lots of Morrissey now before he dies to appreciate the fact  that he's alive and heavenly but also it's too sad knowing he might die soon and I can't bring myself to. I'm also v v sad that Crystal Castles broke up before I got to see them live </3

Also super excited to see Mac Demarco live in November and I just got given Alt J tickets for their biggest gig to date at the O2 Arena!! The new album definitely has its points and I particularly like Bloodflood Pt II and Nara.

Tracey Emin at White Cube Gallery on Sunday. Emin's spidery nudes tower in blotchy black embroidery and minute inky paintings line the walls of a huge airy gallery. White, black, blue and pink. Tracey Emin's development of exploring her own form is distinct, as she says on a video at the end of the show; her drawings no longer portray a 'spindly' girl in her mid-twenties, but a voluptuous and mature woman in her fifties. Accompanying the beautiful paintings and drawings are some neons that buzz on the white walls like sparks: "The Last Great Adventure is You", "Your Absence Only makes me love you more", "More Solitude" and "The Soul will always Do what it needs to do".
"More solitude" seems to be the main phrase that comes to mind when describing Emin's inspiration for the collection. On contemplating the object behind her reference to "You", she realised whilst assembling the pieces that it is a human being's solitude and discovery of the self whilst living that is the most important part of becoming a person.
I found the embroidery and minimal colours beautiful, and although I didn't really see the point of her new sculpture and bronze work I thought that Emin's drawing and composition has excelled in this exhibition.
