Lemonade Lake

Harrison Koisser is really important
~~Peace at Reading fest~~
Everything's very strange, some of my friends are already turning 17 and I'm not ready to think about life and real responsibilities and the exams I'm taking in the future actually meaning something THAT WILL AFFECT MY LIFE (??) no no not for me, I want to be 16 forever and not think about real life and university (although it sounds exciting) and I just want to make art in my bedroom.

I have too much homework to be able to do embroidery and sketching for myself during schooltime which is super depressing because now I feel like very unimaginative and brain-dead from too many history essays and not enough art. I've done some pages in my big book but I feel like nothing's original or anything to be proud of at the moment so I hope I'll get over it.
But I did this super cool collab with the very-talented Areena, inspired bLupita Nyong'o and Sylvia Plath(!!! ) below:

I've been listening to lots of Cherry Glazerr, Jungle, Rock and Roll Nightclub Mac Demarco, The Wytches, The Doors, and Bob Dylan, because Bob will always be there to sing the soundtrack of change in my life and I listened to all his records when I had friends round to play for a week-long of summer, so it's very nostalgic <333

But also Autumn is coming and that means wearing a coat indoors is acceptable again, I can wear thick jumpers 24/7, drink lots of tea without being uncomfortably warm and there will be crunchy leaves and apple crumble and Halloween and then it's almost Christmas (!!)

I'm excited about school sixth form because I read a lot of Virginia Woolf over the summer, and now we're studying To The Lighthouse: one of her more Modernist-movement novels which is so interesting. I also listened to all of Grayson Perry's Reith Lectures late on a sunday night and they're so well articulated about the contemporary art world: it made me super excited for Grayson's NPG exhibition this year <3

Witching Hour

As the long nights go on, I repeatedly find myself wearing black clothing, matched with my witch sandals or platform black boots, to match my mood. No, I don't watch American Horror Story, but from tumblr I can deduce that they all wear some fab flowing witchy garments that I would love to own. I am merely trying to replicate the 'Quinn the Brain' Daria episode, because I'm so deep and intellectual. (pls understand my sarcasm here.)
Think Meadham Kirchhoff AW13 and The Addams Family.
Oh Wednesday if only I had a peter-pan-collar-dress like you do <3 babe <3
I also really like the new Cheap Monday 'New Doom' collection thing that was shown at the Copenhagen Fashion Week, but that might be because I have a proper crush on Margot Tenenbaum and the collection has a very winter-y vibe.
Sorry, my brain is a bit dead after a dreadful start of the week at school so I'm not sure I can properly form comprehendable sentences right now..

I am wearing an anarchy top made by some art student in the 80s, a Rachel Riley skirt and New Look witch sandals with glittery tights and my cross necklace.

Oh Quinn, as Head of the Fashion Club, I commend you. <3

Any Day But Thursday

The post's title is a lyric from Morrissey's new ish cover of Satellite of Love, originally by Lou Reed. Being Morrissey, he obviously had to change the lyrics slightly to suit himself, transforming 'I watched it on TV' to 'I cannot stand the TV'.. Oh Moz.

A recent Rookie article I read is very relevant to this post and it encouraged me to carry on making things after I had a major stall/freakout/stress, when I realised I should be devoting every second of my break to cramming more biology definitions into my brain for my exams. But you need to rest between revising, or your head might just explode or something, so the article made me re-realise that, and slow down. Basically, if you're vaguely interested in creating things or you criticise the arts as an "easy subject", maybe have a read of this, because it's a good article and could give you a better perspective.

This holiday, I've filled a whole moleskine with drawings and random stuff like my scans below, because revision has been so ghastly and I finished like all of the tv series I was chain-watching. (asdfg Sherlock) -This is probably a good thing, because I watched too much tv anyway. Also making art is the perfect way to calm down and forget my oncoming exams. I love it when people share their visual diaries on the internet because I can compare with mine and get inspiration and it's just nice to see other people's work so here's some of mine..

Final Art Piece: Glitter Queen

These are a few of the photos I put in my sketchbook for my art final piece at the start of the month, inspired by 1970s glamour, Ziggy Stardust, Petra Collins' and Miles Aldridge's photography. My lovely friend Rachel modelled for me, and kindly let me completely improvise and do her face paint as a glittery alien queen. I used projections and coloured acetate over the lens to manipulate the colour and lighting.
Praise the 99p store for all my sparkly props and tinsel <3 <3
